Major topics covered in this exam are: Layer 2 Switching and VLANs, Spanning Tree, Layer 2 Security, Protocol Independent Routing, Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), Intermediate System to Intermediate System (IS-IS), Broader Gateway Protocol (BGP), Tunnels, and High Availability.
Why is this exam required?
This exam is appropriate for entry level to intermediate level experienced professionals having experience in implementation of routing and switching. The following job roles are available in completion of this certification:
- Enterprise Routing and Switching Specialist
- Network Engineers
- Network Administrators
Candidates are required to have knowledge and experience in understanding and implementing routing and switching technologies. There is no associated exam.
There is no such prerequisite to attend the exam Juniper JN0 343. However, it is recommended candidates to have experience in implementing routing and switching in an enterprise environment.
Although there are no pre requisites for the exam, it is important to have an experience in implementation of routing and switching. The certification will remain valid for two years.
Objectives of the exam:
The exam is divided into 9 divisions, each division carrying different weights. A summary of these topics is given below:
- Layer 2 Switching and VLANs
This section tests the candidate’s knowledge on the concepts and functionality of Layer 2 switching for the Junos OS which includes enterprise switching platforms, bridging components and frame processing; concepts and functions of VLANs which includes ports, tagging, native VLANs and voice VLANs, and inter-VLAN routing and RVI.
- Spanning Tree
This section tests the candidate’s knowledge and skills in determining the benefits of the Spanning Tree Protocol which includes STP and RSTP concepts, port roles, BPDUs, convergence; implementing STP and RSTP, etc.
- Layer 2 Security
This section covers topics such as understanding the benefits of several protection and security features including BPDU, different types of port security, storm control; determining the benefits of Layer 2 firewall filters including types of filter; demonstrate understanding of ways to monitor and configure Layer 2 security in terms of protection, port security, storm control, etc.
- Protocol Independent Routing
This section covers the following topics: determining the functionality of various protocol-independent routing features including load balancing and filter-based forwarding; showing skills regarding ways of monitoring and implementing a number of protocol-independent routing components, etc.
- Open Shortest Path First (OSPF)
This section covers: identification of concepts and features of OSPF which includes link-state database, router ID, LSA packets, etc.; demonstrating skills of ways to monitor, implement and troubleshoot OSPF using different routing applications and troubleshooting tools.
- Intermediate System to Intermediate System (IS-IS)
